Description
Blackwork is not a technique I’m a big fan of. However, when I saw this unusual butterfly design in CrossStitcher magazine last year, I decided to give it a go.
The original design was stitched on white 14-hpi Aida using black thread with an alternative on white 28-hpi Evenweave using DMC’s new colour variation thread (shade #4040).
Given the delicate nature of the design, and that I prefer to stitch on Evenweave these days, I went for the latter option, but as I didn’t like the colour chosen by the magazine (aqua blue) I changed it to #4130 (burnt red).
Whether I will chose to do another blackwork design remains to be seen but this was relatively easy and fun to stitch and the various thickness of thread gives an interesting 3-D effect.
The beads are a personal touch as I am not a fan of French-knots!
Hope you like it.
